National Court Reporters Association Endorses CCVS’s Realtime Court Reporting Program FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toronto, Ontario – February 2, 2009 –The National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), internationally recognized as the leading organization working to advance the Court Reporting profession, announced today that it would be accrediting The Canadian Centre for Verbatim Studies (CCVS) Realtime Court Reporting program.
The NCRA is a committed, leading organization and a premiere educational and informational resource. NCRA members are recognized as ethical, well educated, highly respected, technologically advanced and valued for their work in both the public and private sectors. The college accreditation process is rigorous, and demands that aspiring schools demonstrate that their students receive an extremely high level of education in the field, and that they will be well placed for success within the industry. As a result, CCVS is excited to receive the NCRA’s official endorsement of our innovative program.
“We couldn’t be happier,” says CCVS founder Kimberley Stewart. “Our students are hard working and deserving of the best opportunities. Certification from the NCRA reinforces our reputation as the premiere college for reporters in this country. I’m proud of our educational team and of all of our staff for their dedication to helping us advance our reputation and their commitment to ensuring our students a great future in this profession.”
CCVS is now the only NCRA accredited school in Canada that is exclusively devoted to the training of Real-time Court Reporters and Broadcast Captioners. College Embarks on National Remembrance Project FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Toronto, Ontario - November 10, 2008 – CCVS is Canada’s only exclusive college dedicated to the training of Realtime Court Reporters and Broadcast Captioners and just in time for Remembrance Day the school is embarking on a major project to help record the personal histories of Canadian Veterans for our libraries and schools. Inspired by the National Court Reporters Association, an American organization that organized a similar project for the Library of Congress, last year, CCVS hopes to partner with agencies and groups like Veterans Affairs Canada and the Soldiers’ Tower Committee at UofT in the hopes of beginning a long term project dedicated to improving our archives of war history and remembrance. We’re calling this the CCVS Veterans History Project.
Our long term plan for the CCVS Veterans History Project includes hosting a Veteran History Day at our school, inviting Canadian war vets to come and share their stories with our students who will then transcribe those stories, creating a perfect printed record. We will also digitally record the stories (in audio and visual format) and caption those videos for distribution and archival. We also intend to move forward on an ongoing basis with our students transcribing personal histories for soldiers throughout the holiday season and well into the New Year, whenever interviews may be scheduled, for the purposes of creating better records for agencies like Veterans Affairs, and for the Canadian public in general.
Part of the Veterans Affairs stated mission is “to keep the memory of their achievements and sacrifices alive for all Canadians” and CCVS wants to help with that laudable goal for the benefit of our country and our schools. Court reporters are high-tech professionals in the legal field who are responsible for recording verbatim (word-for-word) what is said during court proceedings, examinations for discovery, public hearings, tribunals and boards of inquiry. While the students at CCVS work their way toward this career, their participation in community projects such as this one, approached in the spirit of Remembrance, Giving and Canadian Patriotism will help empower them to succeed, to participate in their country’s history, all while improving their technical skills. They’re eager to take part, on a volunteer basis and free of charge, in order to be a part of this project.
